Digoxin
(di-JOKS-in)

Lanoxin, Lanoxicaps
Why does
my child need this medicine?
- Used to
treat an irregular heartbeat
- Makes
the heart beat stronger
How
should I give my child this medicine?
- Usually
Digoxin is given twice a day, 12 hours apart (for example: 8am and 8pm)
- Give Digoxin
at the same time every day.
- Do not
stop giving your child Digoxin unless told to do so by your childs
doctor.
- Carefully
measure each dose using a syringe or marked measuring dropper as instructed
by a nurse or pharmacist.
- For infants,
the medicine may be given in a nipple removed from a bottle.
How
should I store this medicine?
- Store
in the original bottle at room temperature, away from heat, moisture,
and direct light.
- Keep all
medicine out of the reach of children. If ANY child gets into the bottle
and swallows Digoxin, take the child to the Emergency Room immediately
with the Digoxin bottle. Please contact the nearest Poison Control Center
(In Indiana 1-800-382-9097).
What
should I do if my child misses a dose of medicine?
- Digoxin
may be given up to two hours late. If the medicine is more than four
hours late, do not give the missed dose. Instead, give
the next dose at the usual time.
- Do not
give two doses of Digoxin at the same time.
- If more
than two doses are missed, call your childs doctor.
What
should I do if my child vomits the medicine?
- Do not
repeat the dose of Digoxin.
- Give the
prescribed amount of Digoxin at the next regular time.
- If your
child continues to vomit or have diarrhea, call your childs doctor.
When
should I call the doctor?
- If you
think you have given your child too much medicine.
- If your
child has: difficulty seeing, sensitivity to light, nausea, vomiting,
severe diarrhea, swelling of the face, hands, feet or ankles, shortness
of breath, headache, confusion, rash or irregular heartbeat.
