Flecainide (Fle-KAY-nide)
Also Called: Tambocor
Why does my child need this medicine?
- Used to treat an irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia).
How should I give my child this medicine?
- Usually given every 6, 8, or 12 hours depending on the age of your child.
- Must be taken on a regular schedule to be effective.
- Do not skip doses because an irregular heartbeat may develop.
- Carefully measure the dose using a syringe or marked medicine dropper as instructed by a nurse or pharmacist. For infants, the medicine may be given in a nipple removed from a bottle.
- In infants on milk based formulas, give one hour before feeding.
How should I store this medicine?
- Store in the original bottle at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and sunlight.
- Keep all medicine out of the reach of children. If any child gets into the bottle and swallows Flecainide, call the Poison Control Center immediately (Indiana 1-800-382-9097).
What
should I do if my child misses a dose of medicine?
- Give the dose as soon as you remember.
- If the medicine is more than 3 hours late, call your doctor for instructions.
- Do not give a double dose to make up for a missed dose.
What should I do if my child vomits the medicine?
- Do not repeat the dose of Flecainide. If more than two doses are missed, call your child's doctor.
- Give the prescribed amount of Flecainide at the
next regular time.
- If your child continues to vomit or have diarrhea, call your child's doctor.
When should I call the doctor?
- If you think you have given your child too much medicine.
- If your child has:
persistent nausea, vomiting and diarrhea, weakness, rash, blurred vision, dizziness, difficult breathing, or swelling of the hands and feet.
