Lasix
(Also Called: Furosemide)
Why does my child
need this medicine?
- Used to
decrease fluid accumulation (edema)
- Makes
the work of the heart easier
How should
I give my child this medicine?
- Lasix
is given one to four times a day
- Give Lasix
at the same time every day.
- Do not
stop giving your child Lasix unless told to do so by your childs
doctor.
- Carefully
measure the dose using a syringe or marked measuring dropper.
- For infants,
the medicine may be given in a nipple removed from a bottle.
How should
I store this medicine?
- Store
in the original bottle at room temperature, away from heat, moisture,
and direct light.
- After
opening the bottle of Lasix, label it with the date. The Lasix is good
for 60 days.
- As with
all medications, Lasix should be kept out of the reach of children.
If ANY child gets into the bottle and swallows Lasix, call the Poison
Control Center.

What should
I do if my child misses a dose of medicine?
- It is
important to give your child the prescribed dose of Lasix at the exact
time every day.
- If the
medicine is more than two hours late, do not give the
missed dose. Instead, give the next dose at the usual time.
- Never
give two doses of Lasix at the same time.
- If more
than two doses are missed, call your childs doctor.
What should
I do if my child vomits the medicine?
- Do not
repeat the dose of Lasix.
- Give the
prescribed amount of Lasix at the next regular time.
- If your
child continues to vomit or have diarrhea, call your childs doctor.
When should
I call the doctor?
- If you
think you have given your child too much medicine.
- If your
child has: swelling of the face, hands, feet or ankles, shortness of
breath, persistent vomiting, severe diarrhea, or rash.
